Head Start Book Distribution
Head Start is a preschool program for low income children before they begin Kindergarten. Kiwanis gives books to all children three times a year as well as reads in the classrooms weekly during the school year. Our bi-monthly speaker at meetings also sign a book that is given to the classroom libraries each year in an all school assembly. We currently fund the purchase of the books as a qualifying organization with First Book. And many of the additional books that we give to the children are free, we just pay shipping. Reading to classroom
When we distribute books to students three times a year, we write their name in the book to take home and then read to each classroom. It is part of a larger program of reading to classrooms once a week during the school year.
Presenting books to Head Start library
Each meeting, we have the speaker sign a book. At the end of a Presidential year, the President presents those books to the Head Start Library with a note from the speaker. Blair Horner, left, presents books to the students.
